
Any Craps
In French “N’importe quel Craps.” It is a wager that involves betting on the numbers 2, 3 or 12. It returns seven times the bet.
Any Seven
In French “N’importe quel sept.” It is a wager placed on the number 7. It returns four times the bet.
Big 6
A bet that predicts the number 6 will be rolled before the 7. It pays “even money,” or one time the amount of the bet.
Big 8
A bet predicting that the number 8 will be rolled before a 7. It also returns even money.
Boxcars
A generic term referring to a situation where the player gets two sixes on the roll of the dice.
Boxman
The “Boxman” is the dedicated Craps dealer. He or she ensures the proper management of the game.
Center Bets
In French, “Paris Central.” These are all bets placed in the middle of the table.
Come Out Roll
The is the very first roll of the dice at the start of the game.
Craps
This refers to the winning combination obtained by the player when, on the first roll (also called “come out roll”), he or she gets a 2, 3 or 12.
Dealer
Casino employee who takes bets and places them on the table.
Die
Small object in the form of a square or cube. By giving it a prolonged shake, a random selection can be made of one of the six available numbers on the six faces that compose it. In Craps, only two dice are only required for playing.
Field Bet
A bet predicting the total of the next roll will land in the area of the table layout marked “Field.” This will therefore be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. This type of bet loses if the player lands on a 5, 6, 7 or 8.
Hard Way
A bet that predicts the player will obtain a 4, 6, 8 or 10.
Hardway Bet
A bet predicting that the player will get the same number on both dice (that is, a “double”) before a 7 comes up. The payout ratio varies depending on the nature of the roll. It could thus be a 7-to-1 or 9-or-1 scheme.
High-Low
A bet predicting that the player will get a 2 and then a 12 after two consecutive rolls.
High-Low-Yo
A bet predicting that the player will get a 2, a 12, and then an 11 after three consecutive rolls.
Horn Bet
A bet predicting that the player will obtain a 2, 3, 11 or 12 on the second throw. As a general rule, this type of bet normally pays out 15 to 1.
House advantage
The “house advantage” is simply a commissioned percentage retained by the bank on each bet made by the player. In Craps, the rate can vary between 1.35% and 16.5%.
Inside numbers
This refers to the numbers 2, 6, 8 or 9.
Natural
In French “Naturel.” This refers to obtaining a 7 or an 11 on the “come out roll.”
Outside Numbers
This refers to the numbers 4, 5, 9 or 10.
Place Bet
This refers to a bet predicting the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will come up before a 7. This bet pays as high as 9-to-8, although it can vary depending on the numbers selected.
Point
This refers to the number that comes up on the first roll.
Seven out
An expression used regularly in Craps to describe the situation in which the player obtains a 7 once the “point” is established.
Shooter
A generic term for the person who rolls the dice.
Snake Eyes
A situation in which the total of two dice is no higher than the value 2 (each die displays a 1 at the end of the roll).
Strategy
The set of tactical methods and practices aimed at increasing the player’s chances of winning.
“Come” Bet
A bet that is placed in the area of the table layout marked “Come.” This bet wins on the sole condition that the player gets a “natural” (a 7 or 11) on the next roll. If he or she gets Craps (a 2, 3 or 12), the player loses the game.
“Don’t Come” Bet
In contrast to the “come” bet, this bet wins on the sole condition that the player gets a 2 or 3 on the next roll. The player wins with a payout return of 1-to-1 (even money). However, if the player rolls a 7 or 11, he or she loses the game.
“Don’t Pass” Bet
The “don’t pass” bet is the precise opposite of “pass line” bet. This bet wins on the sole condition that the player gets a 2, 3 or 12 on the next roll. He or she then wins with a payout return of 1-to-1. However, if the player rolls a 7 or 11, he or she loses the game.
“Pass Line” Bet
This is the most frequently used bet in Craps. It is a bet predicting that the player will get a 7 or 11 on the first roll. However, the player will lose the game if he or she falls on a 2, 3 or 12. The payout return is one-to-one for this bet.
